Forbes: Kyrgyz Republic Is One of the Most Spectacular and Underrated Countries in the World

Forbes has recently published its list of best budget travel destinations for 2017. Luckily for Kyrgyz Republic it got to the list.

With 93 percent of the nation covered in mountains and a rich history and culture that goes back thousands of years, Kyrgyzstan is one of the most spectacular and underrated countries in the world. The capital city, Bishkek, is an incredible hub for exploring Central Asia, with Silk Road remnants like the Burana Tower just a short drive away and some incredible trekking opportunities in the surrounding mountains.

Twenty-one countries were recommended as best budget travel destinations. The top five includes Northern Vietnam, South Korea, Portugal, and Romania. Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic is under number two. This is not the first time Kyrgyz Republic makes it to the list of recommended destinations. Last year Business Insider included it to top twelve emerging travel destinations. Kyrgyz Republic also was among top ten countries tipped for a tourism boom by WTTC.

Trying to become a more attractive destination for tourists, the country was the first in the region to switch to a visa-free regime for a number of developed countries. Still, absurd initiatives like decreasing unregistered stay period to five days happen. But luckily, under pressure by businesses, media, and activists, the Government has canceled its initiative and increased unregistered stay period for up to ninety days for some countries.

The country, while still largely unknown to the world, considers tourism as one of the priority sectors. Kyrgyz Republic hopes to increase the sector's input to the country's GDP. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, the total contribution of travel & tourism to Kyrgyz Republic's GDP is expected to be 3.8% in 2016. The forecast by 2026 is 5.1% of GDP.
