Lake Ala-Kol (Ala-Kul)

One more pearl of Kyrgyz Republic — hidden high in the mountains this a glacial lake is located at the altitude of 3,532 m in the pass, which shares the same name.

Being relatively small (less than 2 sq. km), the lake is quite deep (up to over 70 m) and is amazingly beautiful. Ala-Kol is a rock-dammed lake in the Terskey Ala-Too (Alatau) mountain range in the Ak-Suu District of Issyk-Kul Region. A Russian traveller named Putimtsoff was the first to visit the lake in 1811.
