Flamingos in the Kyrgyz Republic

Flamingos in the Kyrgyz Republic

You will be surprised to know that flamingos are wintering at the Issyk-Kul lake. This not well-known fact is now gaining more attention thanks to Ivan Turkovskyi, a wildlife photographer. In his Facebook posts Ivan shares his stories about bird species in the Kyrgyz Republic. According to Ivan the birds he met are Phoenicopterus roseus or Greater flamingo.

Yes, it is quite surprising but you can see this exotic bird in our country during seasonal migration and when it’s wintering at the Issyk-Kul lake, where I met it. Unfortunately I can’t tell you the exact location because I’m worried someone might harm these birds, I will only tell that the photos were made a bit over a day ago.

As Ivan puts it his post about those long-legged pink birds, we live in a truly amazing country, which strikes with its diverse nature and we should remember that and treat our nature with care.
