This lake of amazing beauty is located in Sary-Chelek National Park at the altitude of 1,878 m 500 km away from Bishkek. The coast is covered by forests. The name translates from Kyrgyz as a 'yellow bucket' or a 'yellow bowl'.
There are several legends about the lake. According to one of them a beekeeper used to have beehives on the coast. Harvesting honey once he was so amazed by the color of the honey, he decided to call the lake Sary-Chelek.
A trip on a boat is very highly recommended.
